Taking your child off a school roll

  1. 1Write to the headteacher (a dated letter or email) saying you are taking your child off the school roll to home educate.
  2. 2The school should offer you a meeting first, and you can ask for a council home education officer to join it. The school must not take your child off roll until it has your letter.
  3. 3If there is a school attendance order for your child, ask the council to revoke it before you deregister.

If your child is on the roll of a special school, the council has to agree before they can be taken off roll.
